Virasat Dehradun 18 Oct - 1 November 2018

Started since 1995 in Dehradun, Virasat was initiated with a motive to bring great performers on one stage for the budding student and other audiences, helping them understand the Indian culture and heritage. Organised by REACH(Rural Entrepreneurship for Art and cultural Heritage) an NGO and Trust, Virasat is a two week festival that includes performances by renowned dancers, singers, authors, poets and also stalls exhibiting great craft work, handmade accessories, leather goods and cloth items from all parts of India.

This International festival provides an opportunity to experience live performances by artists like Hariprasad Chaurasia, Ghulam Ali, Sonal Man Singh, Bismillah Khan, Maqbool Farid Sabri, Naseeruddin Shah, Habib Tanvir, Jagjit Singh, Pt Shiv Kumar Sharma, Govind Nihalani, Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalkrishnan and many more. These dignitaries not only perform at this festival but also interact with the audience and help them clear their doubts and know better about the art. When it comes to visual art it is not only confined to dance and singing; you are also given a wide range of craft items show casing the culture of different stated, fine wood works, jewelleries, paintings and sculptures that are work of perfectionists, clothes like never before, and also attractive home decors.

Virasat over the years has not only been pleasing the Doonites but also foreigners who are guests in Doon for the time being and show overwhelming interest in this festival. It allows them to understand the rich culture and folklore of India. It provides a platform to regional folks to stand high along with international folks. The air of the festival is filled with inspiration and motivation for the youth to understand and carry forward our unique and fabulous culture. Since the time of inauguration it has kept everyone excited about whatever happens in the festival. Every time it comes up with something new and exciting for all.

The festival not only caters to the needs of the youngsters but also sees to that the aged people have a gala time around. Attractive stalls of worth spending on items, food stalls, great exhibition of skills pleases audience of the all the age group. People thus eagerly look forward to this weeklong festival.

Since it is organized in Dehradun, it gives an opportunity to Uttarakhand’s dance form, music, art work and the heritage to reach a large audience. It not only gives the performer a stage to exhibit their art but also helps them preserve the dying culture. I the era of westernisation what better opportunity can these artists get.

This festival in Dehradun is celebrated with atmost priority. Artists are appreciated and the stalls see a good sale referring that people get interest in the artwork.
